《刘子》五卷，五十五篇，不知何人所作。《唐志》十卷，直云梁刘勰撰。今考勰所著《文心雕龙》，文体与此正类，其可征不疑。第卷数不同，为少异尔。袁孝政谓刘昼（孔昭）伤己不遇，遭天下陵迟，播迁江表，故作此书，非也。孝政以无传记可凭，复致疑于刘歆、刘勰、刘孝标所为，黄氏遂谓孝政所托，亦非也。其书本黄老言，杂引诸家之说以足成之，绝无甚高论。末论九家之学，迹异归同，尤为鄙浅。然亦时时有可喜者。《清神章》云：“万人弯弧以向一鹄，鹄能无中乎？万物眩曜以惑一生，生能无伤乎？”（《亢仓子》同）三复其言，为之出涕！
